There’s always a case for better wellness as an ageing woman. Specific illnesses affect women more than men. But there are easy ways you can help yourself as you progress through life.
Reducing Age-Related Illnesses
There are many illnesses that come with getting older. Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease are two that come to mind right away. Still, you can also get multiple sclerosis (What is MS?). MS doesn’t have anything to do with age, but it’s usually found in people in their 40s, and it’s much more common in women than in men. You can help prevent diseases that come with getting older by living a healthier life without vices and getting enough vitamins.
It’s Never Too Late to Quit
Most people pick up a lot of bad habits as they go through life. Some of these are smoking, drinking too much alcohol, and eating foods that are bad for you. Even if you’ve done something for a long time, it can be hard to stop, but any doctor will tell you it’s never too late. For instance, when you stop smoking, you start to feel better almost right away. And most of the long-term effects of drinking can be reversed if you stop drinking or cut down on how much you drink.
Improve Nutrition for Wellness as an Ageing Women
It might surprise you, but over 90% of the population is missing one or more vitamins and minerals. This is true no matter how healthy or wealthy they are. Most of the time, this is vitamin B-12 or vitamin D for women. Fortunately, by eating a variety of foods and focusing on certain “superfoods,” you can make sure you get enough of what you need. Rich green, red, or orange foods, as well as whole grains, are great for women. And avoid eating too much full-fat dairy.
Make Sure You Sleep Well
Women may be more likely than men to have insomnia because their hormones change in ways that can make them sleepy. But as we get older, many of us find it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep. This can make you tired and irritable. Stop taking as many naps during the day, make a bedtime routine, and go to bed at the same time every night. Also, before you go to bed, try having some caffeine-free chamomile tea or a classic drink to promote sleep, like warm milk.
See Your Doctor Regularly
Because of changes in hormones, a woman’s body goes through a lot at each stage of her life. So, going to the doctor regularly to check your blood pressure and cholesterol levels is a good idea. High readings could mean you are more likely to have a stroke or suffer from the effects of heart disease. But any problems can be fixed with medicine. And getting your annual shots from your doctor will make it much less likely that you will get COVID-19 or the flu.
Summary
It’s important that you take steps to improve and maintain your wellness as an ageing woman. You can quit harmful vices, improve your nutrition and make sure you see your doctor often.
