It’s easy to get stuck in our own emotional downs and feel down in the dumps. It’s easy to forget how easy it is to feel happier. Here are 7 quick ways to feel happier, some of them might surprise you.
Go for a walk
Going for a walk is my most favourite thing to do, and it instantly makes me feel better and brighter. It also is one of the best forms of exercise, as not only are you exercising and moving. You are outside in the fresh air and natural environment. You can take in the birds, the trees, and the peace that this brings. Try and switch off from the things you’ve left at home, and enjoy.
Listen to quality music
Music can shift your state within moments, dig out an old song that makes you smile, blast it out and sing your heart out. Even just having the radio on can brighten your day, from listening to the presenters chatting or a new song you’ve never heard of.
Open yourself to discovering something new
Walk to the shop and pick up a new magazine that inspires you to see and try something new. You could even pop to your local library and join up, this would get you out and about and find a new book to read. You might even find some books that make you feel much happier, and some quick ways to feel happier
Find something to laugh at
Laughter is the best free medicine to lift your spirits, find a funny book, watch a comedy, or you could find a live comedians show. This would have you laughing to you’re tummy hurts!
Simple breathing meditation
Breathing meditation is a great exercise to do anywhere, if you’re feeling stressed sit comfortably with your back straight and watch you’re breathing. Breathing out for longer than you breathe in. You can also find plenty of calming meditation apps online now, that you can use to follow. I enjoy the Calm app for sleeping, and when feeling stressed.
Doodling for the fun of it
During lockdown I found a love for colouring, I was able to stop and use this time to wind my brain down and try this. The adult colouring books are brilliant for this, with pre-printed outlines you can make some beautiful pictures. Or even give bullet journaling a go and see if this helps you notice how your state of mind changes and becomes peaceful.
Cooking a treat
Cook yourself something you really love, taking the time out away from things that might stress you out but making something you really love to eat. May it be sweet or savory, you will switch off for a while and feel like you’ve achieved something.
I hope these have helped you think of something that can make you feel happier, these quick ways to feel happier can be something really small but makes a big difference
