How To Create A Relaxing Home

Our homes should be somewhere we can relax in, a space that we retreat to at the end of the day, so you need to create a relaxing home, filled with all your favourite things.

So where do we start when it comes to creating a relaxing home? Let’s get planning!

What Space Do You Have?

Start by looking at the space you want to design. Is it a small space, or a large open space? You want to decide what feeling of the room you want to create. If it’s a small space do you love to keep it small and cosy, or do you want to feel the space getting larger?

Do small spaces make you feel happier and calmer?

The same with a large open plan room, do you love that type of space and does that make you feel more relaxed, or would you prefer to create a cosy area within this room? Somewhere to retreat to and curl up to relax.

All of this is personal preference, or look around at pictures online to see how spaces work and if you love that look. Get them pinned on Pinterest and saved off on Instagram!

Colour Schemes

We decided to go for a cosy warm pink in our lounge, and we love it. But it won’t be for everyone, as it’s on all four walls and pink! But we knew this room for us was going to be warm and cosy, and I wanted to make it feel like it was wrapping around me with a soft colour scheme.

Someone else may find a clean and crisp white minimal look that is more relaxing for them. What do you love? It’s your home and so choose what you love.

Flooring Options

There are a few things to think about when planning flooring and how to create a relaxing home. You need to think about the whole look of the room. Is it a cosy soft room where carpet would suit? Or would a clean-lined wood flooring suit the room better?

Carpets are not as easy to keep clean in a busy household, so would this make you feel less relaxed when you look at a dirty floor? I loved the cosy feeling that carpet gives you, and the room that I enjoy relaxing in has a warm and cosy look.

However, we have wood flooring in our family room, and even though it’s a busy room with dogs and children, I think the warm wood flooring colour creates a relaxing home. If you’re concerned about the costs of wood flooring, keep an eye out for an Engineered Wood Flooring Sale as this will give you some great bargains. Engineered wood flooring has a layer of solid wood floor on top of a base, meaning you have the look of wood flooring, but not the full cost, as the whole plank isn’t made up of wood. This still gives you the beautiful wood flooring look, at a much less cost.

Lighting

I love lighting, but I also think it changes the look of the room instantly depending on what type of lighting you have. Spotlights are strong bright lights, this is fantastic for focus work or in a kitchen whilst preparing food. I prefer the softer lights in a room where I would like to relax.

Look at pendant lighting options, you don’t just have the option of fabric lampshades anymore, look at glass ones. This creates a beautiful look with the lights shining through but softened by the colour of the glass.

We also have installed lots of Philips Hue lights in our home, as this means we have control over our lighting options and can make them as bright or warm as we want. Great if you have a multi-functional room and want to use it for daily life, but then soften it when you want to create a relaxing home.

Artwork

Artwork can completely change up the room’s feeling, placing artwork of happy memories and family, allowing you to remember the good times of places you’ve been or happy times with the family. Adding pieces from holidays, or places you would love to visit. Whatever you choose remember it’s your home and as long as it makes you happy then it’s in the perfect place.

If you want to soften the look of you’re artwork, think about how you’re displaying it or what material it’s made from. Artwork can even be made from fabrics, this adds interest to the room but is much softer than frames of artwork.

Creating a relaxing home often starts with small, intentional habits that help reduce mental overload and bring a sense of calm into daily life. Simple creative activities can play an important role in this, giving the mind a focused and soothing task away from screens and stress. One effective option is paint by numbers kits, which offer a structured way to unwind while still creating something visually rewarding. Davincified provides a wide range of designs that make it easy to turn quiet time into a relaxing creative routine. Over time, these kinds of activities can contribute to a more peaceful and balanced home environment.

Accessories

Accessories come in many forms like cushions, rugs, vases and ornaments. All of these will help personalise your space to include the things you love. This then makes it your home, your space and somewhere you can relax because you’re surrounded by all your things.

I hope this has helped you create a relaxing home for you to unwind in
